Nice investigative work. Simmons says he is terminated while Duke PD says he is on paid suspension. Either one of them is lying or the Duke PD has fired him since their initial statement. Maybe a little follow up is in order.

Fact Checker here. Yes the Chronicle has been doing a good job on this story, as more and more questions are coming into focus:

1) the suspect was on the Raleigh police force for a decade, achieving the rank of Master Officer. Why did he leave for a lower paying job at Duke a little over a year ago?

2) local media in Alabama have reported that the suspect had his Duke police uniform (no specific word if this included his badge) in his car. I have not seen that in the Durham media.

Why did he take this to Alabama, or is wearing that part of his "thing." We learned earlier that he had his Duke-issued gun in his car.

3) The list of items seized from the suspect's car -- handcuffs, whip etc. -- as carried in most news reports is incomplete. Please add: He had a high capacity enema bag colored pink, a wide size butt plug colored deep orange, and a bright blue device that looks like an upside down funnel about a foot high. Even Fact Checker does not know what that is about.

Hey, when the story gets colorful, go for it!!

4) I would like to see some specific information on the psychological profile used to hire an officer -- and issue a Duke gun.

Sorry Fact Checker here. I am so used to clicking on the SAVE button merely to preserve my work, rather than actually POST it. I therefore left out point 5

5) We need to know what the officer's assignments were at Duke. Did he work alone? Did he come into contact with rape or sex crime victims? Was he in a position so he could doctor sex crime reports, or obtain names from them? Did he receive any commendations or complaints during his time at Duke?

I agree with you both. This is a highly disturbing case and we need to hear more from Duke about it. At another university, I had a campus police officer treat me like dirt when I reported something stolen once - he actually said something along the lines of, "You're a woman, you just forgot where you put it." Ideally, no cops would be like that anywhere but especially at a university the cops need to be not misogynists. Especially such an expensive university. Some parents need to be asking Duke some tough questions.

So much conflicting information, I don't know what to believe....did you see this article:

This site says the woman reported the rape on Sunday. But the event occurred on Friday night/Saturday morning. Why did she wait to report it so long after much physical evidence on her would be gone? We all watch the Lifetime movies and know how important it is to immediately report a rape. I am not trying to accuse the victim here, but just wonder what exactly happened that isn't being shared or reported. Too much information about this that we DON'T know.
