Duke announces settlement with indicted laxers
University officials announced Monday that Duke has reached a settlement with Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans, Trinity '06, the three former men's lacrosse players who were indicted last spring.
A University-issued release with statements from the players and from the Board of Trustees and President Brodhead said the University would not discuss the terms of the settlement.
John Burness, senior vice president for public affairs and government relations, said Monday that the agreement was several weeks in the making but was signed Monday.
"The settlement covers all matters related to the situation to date involving Duke and its employees, including members of the Duke faculty," he said. "I think both sides just agreed that both sides would have been looking at months or years of difficult litigation and it was time to go forward."
