Head coach Mike Krzyzewski had surgery to repair a hernia more than a month after undergoing successful knee replacement surgery.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski underwent successful inguinal hernia repair surgery Monday at Duke University Hospital, the team announced Monday.

Rising junior guard Grayson Allen underwent the same procedure in late April, and the recovery time is typically four weeks.

Krzyzewski had knee replacement surgery in early April and is rehabbing as he prepares to lead USA Basketball into the Rio de Janeiro Olympics later this summer.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Duke University Hospital who made this procedure as smooth as possible,” Krzyzewski said in a release. “With this surgery behind me, I’ll be in great physical condition heading into the Olympics and I’m excited for the opportunities that lie ahead."

Early Monday afternoon, The Durham Herald-Sun's Steve Wiseman reported that Kevin White, vice president and director of athletics, said that he expected Krzyzewski to coach for at least five more years.

Krzyzewski, 69, has five more years left on his current contract.
