Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie offered $1,000 to the craziest fan at Duke's Nov. 22 game against Army.

In 2013, Kansas State tried to lure students to a home women's basketball game with the promise of free bacon.

Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie is trying to take the incentives game to an entirely new level.

Addressing the crowd at Duke's Countdown to Craziness season kickoff event Saturday night, McCallie promised $1,000 to the "craziest" fan at the Blue Devils' home game Nov. 22 game against Army. Students who made prior arrangements to travel home early for Thanksgiving might want to rethink those plans.

With most of last year's Sweet Sixteen squad returning and the infusion of the nation's top-ranked recruiting class, the Blue Devils figure to be right back near the top of the ACC in 2015-16. Sophomore Azura Stevens and redshirt sophomore Rebecca Greenwell return to lead the offense, and incoming guards Angela Salvadores, Crystal Primm, Kyra Lambert, Haley Gorecki and Faith Suggs will bring perimeter balance to a roster that was one of the tallest in the country last season.

During her remarks, McCallie called the men's basketball team's 2015 national championship banner—which was unveiled in the rafters of Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday—a goal to strive for as the women's program looks to hang its first national championship banner in Durham in the near future.

"It's a tough act to follow, but it's one to admire, and it motivates us every day," McCallie said.

Duke hosts its annual Blue-White Scrimmage Saturday at 1 p.m. before welcoming Pfeiffer to Durham Nov. 5 for the team's first exhibition contest.
