Duke junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon has been dismissed from Duke's basketball program.
The move was announced by head by head coach Mike Krzyzewski Thursday. The press release stated that Sulaimon remains in good academic standing and is expected to finish the spring semester. This marks the first time ever that Krzyzewski has dismissed a player from his team.
“Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program,” Krzyzewski said in a press release. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”
Team sources said the dismissal was a buildup of issues throughout Sulaimon's time at Duke and was not the result of a single incident.
Sulaimon was an ACC All-Freshman in his rookie campaign after averaging 11.6 points per game but saw a dip in his numbers in the 2013-14 season, as he averaged just 9.9 points.
The Houston, Texas, native was averaging 7.5 points. 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists this season as a bench player for the Blue Devils
